Milestones
Humble beginning to a sustained presence.
1995
Godhuli started its first centre in 1995 at JAN VIKAS KENDRA, Slum wing, Patparganj, Near Trilokpuri Police Station, Delhi with 40 children in class I. By 2005-06, Godhuli had 280 Children in class I to V in forenoon shift and 80 students in Class I & II in afternoon shift. Thereafter as per Government’s policy under RTE, all the students in this centre were mainstreamed to nearby Government Schools in 2008. On this happy note we discontinued the centre.
2000
Encouraged by the success of the first Bapu-Ba-Bal Shiksha Grih at Patparganj, Godhuli started its second BABU-BA-BAL-SHIKSHA GRIH in a temporary shed in Meera Bagh slum behind B-Block, Paschim Vihar, West Delhi. Today this centre educates approx. 225 Children in the morning shift and 90 children in afternoon shift.
2005
UEE Mission-Godhuli’s association with Universal Elementary Education (UEE) Program of Government of Delhi dates back to 2005. With the winding of old scheme, a new program was envisaged in Sept 2007 by UEE Mission.
2009
Computer Literacy Programme was started for XII passed poor slum children of Meerabagh area in partnership with Lal Bahudar Shikshan Sansthan under Manav Kalyan Avam Vikas Sanstha with a view to provide them skills to get suitable employment and to stand on their feet. We later shifted to another training academy – Shining Doon in Jwala Heri. Till date around 400 youths have been educated under this programme over 16 batches
Godhuli signs an MOU with Ekta Shakti Sangathan for two nursery classes and tutorial guidance in English, Maths and Science for both boys and girls of class 5th to 10th over two shifts. This initiative continued till 2014.
2011
MOU was signed with CMM Charitable Trust for giving them financial assistance to conduct KG Classes for children in age group 4 to 6 years. 60 Children are enrolled in two sections for the KG classes and provided with all the aids as is being provided to the Godhuli run centres at other locations.
Beginning Nov, 2016, Godhuli also started sponsoring education of around 15 differently abled children studying in the same centre.
2015
Godhuli was allotted the Basti Vikas Kendra in Dhobighat, Kalaynpuri by Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB), where presently around 40 children are being provided pre-primary education. It caters to the most underprivileged children of nearby localities such as those belonging to waste picker communities and other migrant labor families
2016
Godhuli signed MoU with Saini family based at Nangloi Located in the midst of a migrant labour Colony, the centre has made good progress with number of students swelling to 90 in just six months.
Enthused by the success of the computer education being provided at Lal Bahadur Shikshan Sansthan, Godhuli also started sponsorship for Nursery Teachers Training for young women of Mirabagh and Nangloi areas. The first batch of nine teachers were trained successfully
2020
COVID and the associated lockdown struck resulting in the children of all centres going without access to gigital means of education. The situation was met with lot of resilience and hardwork by Godhuli teaching team as they started calling children by phone encouraging them to keep in touch with studies and also posted hundreds of videos on Godhuli Shiksha Channel in Youtube for benefit of the children. Later children were called on a weekly basis and given worksheets
With the coming up of new Anganvadis in Sagarpur area and start of pre-primary education in nearby MCD schools, patronage of the centre started going down. Also with COVID lockdown coming in force, Godhuli and CMM Charitable Trust amicably terminated the arrangement. The Trust was good enough to donate all the furniture at the centre to Godhuli.
Taking advantage of lockdown condition, Godhuli carried out major infrastructural repairs by undertaking long required change of roof at Mirabagh centre at a cost of nearly Rs 10 lakhs. The centre was also provided with Kota stoen flooring and tiled interiors.
2021
The Computer Training programme shifted to the more professionally managed Sining Doon Academy in Jwala Heri area near Mirbagh slums. Subsequently NTT programme also commenced for the youth as also for all teachers inducted in Godhuli who have not undergone NTT
Noticing the fall in the academic levels of children in Meera Bagh slums owing to cessation of conventional school for nearly two years, Godhuli commenced tutorial education (with the help of a donation from a U.S based Indian Philanthropist) for children of classes 6th to 9th in December 2021, which entailed classes in the three traditional tough subjects of English, Mathematics and Science.
Tutorial education has continued every year thereon with around 60 students of classes 6th to 10th being enrolled in the programme .The classes are taken by professional tutors and it involves not only remedial education in the conventional subjects, but also other initiatives like experiments to prove scientific facts, quizzes etc to make school education more interesting. All the tutorial students are normally getting promoted to next class, with most registering healthy improvement in all three subjects. The initiative is now funded by Rajdhani Flour Mills
2022
The rental income accrued from Godhuli along with some additional financial support was used by the Saini family to renovate completely the structure housing the centre. With architectural and civil engineering inputs from Godhuli team, the Nangloi centre got a much more spacious and well ventilated building with good interiors in record time.
The Nangloi centre starts an afternoon shift, beginning with two KG sections. The new initiative commences on the eve of Gandhi Jayanti
2023
Godhuli sponsors the education of seven autistic children from economically deprived background being nurtured by Ved Education and Social Welfare Organiation (VESWO) for a period of one year
2024
In 2024 March, Godhuli has started a new and noble initiative of basic literwcy programme for adults in the colony with the sponsorship of Rotary Club Janak. The first batch of around 30 women – many of them parents of Godhuli students are taught Hindi and English language speaking/reading and writing skills along with Basic mathematics
Godhuli started its fourth functional centre in May 2024 in a three room set up taken on rent. The centre aspires to educate 60 children and carry out remedial/tutorial education for school going students. An NGO run by the landlord of the premises is also providing some facilitation in the process
Godhuli strengthens its collaboration with Rotary Club Janak (RCJ) as the latter co-sponsor running of a centre for pre-primary education for slum children in Vikas Puri G block at the DUSIB shelter. A total of 60 children proposed to be educated at this centre.
In a nutshell Godhuli has been charting its own course for the betterment of the education levels amongst the under-privileged, by complimenting the government schemes. It has turned from being an educator to a facilitator for not only creating keen students but also skilled youth!
